Longhua Temple

Located at No.2853 Longhua Road, Longhua Temple is a complete temple complex. It adopts the temple of seven-building system in Song Dynasty. Along the central axis there are Maitreya Hall, Heavenly King Hall, Great Buddha Hall, Three-Saint Hall, Abbot’s Room and Depository of Buddhist Sutras successively. There are bell tower and drum tower to the east and west of the gate, with a green dragon bronze bell hanging high in the bell tower. Longhua Evening Bell was one of the Eight Scenes of Shanghai in Ming Dynasty. There are two stones in the temple: southwest corner stone and southeast corner boundary stone of Kongxiang Temple of the Northern Song Dynasty, which prove that Longhua Temple had already been built by the Northern Song Dynasty. Shanghai Bureau of Parks and Woods renovated Longhua Temple in 1979 with the goal of opening up tourist attractions, and handed it over to religious authorities in 1983. Longhua Temple was announced by Shanghai Municipal People's Government as Shanghai Municipality Cultural Relics Protection Unit on August 26, 1980.
