Tomb of Huang Daopo

Located at No.700 Xumei Road, the Tomb of Huang Daopo is an oval stone circle earth tomb. In front of the tomb is a white marble stone tablet, the front of which is inscribed with “Tomb of Huang Daopo in the Yuan Dynasty” written by Wei Wenbo, the former CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee Secretary. Huang Daopo was born at the end of the Song Dynasty in Wunijing (now Huajing Town), Huating County. When she was young, she was stranded in Yazhou, Hainan where she learned cotton growing and textile skills from the Li nationality. Later on, she returned home and taught textile technology. As a result, the cotton textiles made there were sold in many provinces, and there was a saying that “the cloth of Songjiang was sold to the whole country”. Huang Daopo was also recognized by later generations as Xianmian (ancestor of cotton). After she died, her fellow villagers built a tomb for her. In 2002, Huang Daopo Memorial was built to the east of the tomb. The Tomb of Huang Daopo was announced by Shanghai Municipal People's Government as Shanghai Municipality Cultural Relics Protection Unit on November 17, 1987.
