Residence at No.45 Fenyang Road

Located at No.45 Fenyang Road, the garden residence of typical Spanish-style was built in 1932, with a fake-three-floor brick-and-concrete structure. The facade is vertically divided into three sections. There are three continuous arched loggias supported by four columns in the middle of the first storey. The building was originally the mansion of customs commissioner. It was not until the 1940s when Ding Guitang took up the post of deputy customs commissioner that Chinese started to live here. Ding Guitang (1891-1962), born in Liaoning, was responsible for taking over customs of Beijing and Shanghai after the Anti-Japanese War ended in 1945. After the founding of the People’s Republic of China in 1949, he served as Deputy Director of the General Administration of Customs and Director of Customs Administration successively. Now the building was used by Shanghai Customs College. The Residence at No.45 Fenyang Road was announced by Shanghai Municipal People's Government as Shanghai Municipality Cultural Relics Protection Unit and Shanghai Municipality Outstanding Heritage Architecture on September 25, 1989.
