Monastery Apartments

Located at No.62 West Fuxing Road, the Spanish-style apartment residence of Brick-and-concrete structure was built in 1930. It consists of a two-floor south building (front building) and a three-floor north building (rear building), which are connected by a colonnade, and each of which has an independent entrance. In the middle is an inner courtyard. The entrance is recessed and semi-hexagonal. The doors and windows are square or arched, the windows on both sides are equipped with Corinthian threaded columns, and the window lintels are decorated with arched ornaments. The building was originally the residence of a British merchant who was the owner of Patons & Baldwins, Ltd. It was misunderstood by many people as a monastery; however, it has nothing to do with monastery. The Cloister was announced by Shanghai Municipal People's Government as Shanghai Municipality Cultural Relics Protection Unit and Shanghai Municipality Outstanding Heritage Architecture on September 25, 1989.
