Residence at No.9 Dongping Road

Located at No.9 Dongping Road, the European-style garden residence of fake-three-floor composite structure was built in 1932. It features L-shaped plane and protruding middle part. There is a porch on the first floor and a balcony on the second floor, and a small garden in the south. Chiang Kai-shek and his wife Soong Mei-ling often came to Shanghai, but had no proper residence. Finally, Soong Tzu-wen found this garden house as Soong Mei-ling’s dowry. Chiang Kai-shek and Soong Mei-ling lived here after they married, and Chiang Kai-shek inscribed “Ai-Lu”. The building is now used by the High School Affiliated to Shanghai Conservatory of Music. The Residence at No.9 Dongping Road was announced by Shanghai Municipal People's Government as Shanghai Municipality Outstanding Heritage Architecture on February 15, 1994, and as Shanghai Municipality Cultural Relics Protection Unit on April 4, 2014.
