Orthodox Church, Xinle Road

Orthodox Church, located at No.55 Xinle Road, was built in 1936 with funds raised by Orthodox Shanghai Diocese Bishop Viktor from Orthodox Christians and White Russian nationals, and was designed by architect Livonos at Yaron, Architects. Of the Byzantine architectural style, it is also called Mission Church, and is similar to the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour in Moscow. The main dome is 35m high, and is accompanied by four small ones. In February 1962, Orthodox Church stopped religious activities after holding the last religious ceremony. In July 1988, Shanghai Administration Committee of Cultural Relics renovated the church. Orthodox Church was announced by Shanghai Municipal People's Government as Shanghai Municipality Outstanding Heritage Architecture on February 15, 1994, and as Shanghai Municipality Cultural Relics Protection Unit on April 4, 2014.
