Zhong-Yuan Building
Built in 1898, Zhong-Yuan Building is also known as Church Building. It is a British-style building designed by Ferguson, with a three-floor brick-and-wood structure, concave shaped plane and symmetric facade. There are continuous Rome arch column-style galleries on the middle ground floor, Tuscan columns on both sides of the middle entrance, and a large balcony on the second floor. Besides, there are single-opening arched windows on the first and third floor, and double-opening arched windows on the second floor, with window posts and lintels decorated with pointed arches. It has double-pitch red-tile roofs. Outer walls are made of grey bricks alternating with red bricks engraved with ornamental design. The building was originally used for teaching, and now serves as an office building. Zhong-Yuan Building was announced by Shanghai Municipal People's Government as Shanghai Municipality Outstanding Heritage Architecture on February 15, 1994, and as Shanghai Municipality Cultural Relics Protection Unit on April 4, 2014.
