New Zhong-Yuan Building
Built in 1910 the New Zhong-Yuan Building is an obvious “gallery-style structure”. It has two floors, a lattice-shaped plane, grey-brick walls, waist line red bricks, and peripheral corridors leading to all directions. The building adopts the wooden beam column system of traditional Chinese architecture by replacing stocky brick columns with wooden beam columns. This simple yet elegant small building combining Chinese and Western style was the first independent student dormitory in the school. After 1949, the building was converted into an office building for departments. In 2003, it was rebuilt into C.Y. Tung Maritime Museum, with the first floor as Chinese Maritime History Hall, and the second floor as C.Y. Tung Showroom. The New Zhong-Yuan Building was announced by Shanghai Municipal People's Government as Shanghai Municipality Cultural Relics Protection Unit on April 4, 2014.
