Former Site of Jiangnan Ammunition Factory

Located at No.2577 Longhua Road, the outer walls of the existing iron workshop are bricked, and all its roof trusses are made of iron, with twelve iron posts supporting the roof. It is one of the earliest workshops built and used in Jiangnan Ammunition Factory. In 1862, Li Hongzhang founded Jiangnan Manufacture General Bureau in Shanghai. In 1870, Li Hongzhang instructed Ding Richang, Feng Junguang, et al to purchase 53,300 sq m of land to the north of Longhua Temple to found Longhua Black Powder Factory. Office of Songhu Hujunshi, Office of Songhu Commercial Port Supervisors, KMT Songhu Garrison Headquarters, etc. were successively set up here. The Former Site of Jiangnan Ammunition Factory was announced by Shanghai Municipal People's Government as Shanghai Municipality Outstanding Heritage Architecture on September 23, 1999, and as Shanghai Municipality Cultural Relics Protection Unit on April 4, 2014.
