Former Site of Bibliotheca Zi-Ka-Wei
Catholic Historic Buildings in Xujiahui。 Located at No. 80 North Caoxi Road, it is also known as Catholic Bibliotheca or Huitang Shishi. It was built from 1896 to 1897. The Bibliotheca Zi-Ka-Wei is a two-floor building with a brick-and-wood structure and double-pitch roofs, and is equipped with European-style pointed arch window frames and wooden hard window blinds. It is the oldest religious library existing in Shanghai. The design idea of the stack room on the first floor derives from the idea in Chinese traditional work - the Book of Changes. The stack room once collected over 120,000 chorographies of China. The stack room on the second floor collects over 80,000 precious books in nearly 20 languages such as Latin and Greek published since the 16th century. The Former Site of Bibliotheca Zi-Ka-Wei was announced by Shanghai Municipal People's Government as Shanghai Municipality Outstanding Heritage Architecture on February 15, 1994, and as Shanghai Municipality Cultural Relics Protection Unit on April 4, 2014.
