Catholic Major Seminary

Catholic Historic Buildings in Xujiahui。 The building is located at No.40 Nandan Road. Its foundation was laid on November 20, 1928, and it was completed on October 30 the next year. It is a four-floor brick-and-concrete structure. Its facade is symmetrically divided into three units, with the main entrance in the middle. On November 1, 1929, the new building of the Major Seminary was opened. The constitution of the Major Seminary and regulations on courses, learning period and age formulated by director - priest A. Gotteland - were already similar to those of Catholic seminaries in the West. The Major Seminary was closed in 1955. The Catholic Major Seminary was announced by Shanghai Municipal People's Government as Shanghai Municipality Outstanding Heritage Architecture on September 23, 1999, and as Shanghai Cultural Relic Protection Unit on April 4, 2014. It joined the Catholic Historical Buildings in Xujiahui.
