Morning Star Girls’ School
Catholic Historic Buildings in Xujiahui。 Located in Shanghai No.4 High School, No.100 Tianyaoqiao Road, it was completed in 1917. It is French Renaissance style, having a fake-four-floor brick-and-wood structure with Solemn symmetric facade. In 1903, the Society of Helpers founded Morning Star Girls’ School by borrowing some of the buildings of Chongde Girls’ School and the unoccupied buildings of the Foundling Hospital in Notre-Dame Monastery in Zi-Ka-Wei as schoolhouses, and only accepted non-Catholic girls. In 1914, new schoolhouses were built to the northeast of Chongde Girls’ School. In 1931, the school was renamed as Shanghai Private Morning Star Girls’ High School. In 1952, it was merged with Xuhui Girls’ High School and renamed as Shanghai Private Huiming Girls’ High School, and later Shanghai No.4 High School. In 1968, it was renamed as Shanghai No.4 High School, and started to accept both boys and girls. Morning Star Girls’ School was announced by Shanghai Municipal People's Government as Shanghai Municipality Cultural Relics Protection Unit on April 4, 2014.
