Former Site of New Fourth Army’s Office in Shanghai

Located at No.15, Lane 140, Jiashan Road, it was built in 1940. It is an old-style neighborhood Shikumen architecture. In January 1941, the Southern Anhui Incident broke out. To facilitate the transport of personnel from Shanghai to base areas, CPC Central Committee Southeast Bureau and New Fourth Army Headquarters secretly set up New Fourth Army’s Office in Shanghai in March of the year. The office was originally located at No.251 Julu Road in the French Concession, and was then moved to the house of Li Ziming at No.15, Xingshunli, Jiashan Road. The office opened two secret transport lines from Shanghai to North Jiangsu and to Huainan. It helped Central Jiangsu CPC Committee Secretary Chen Pixian, New Fourth Army cadres Liu Yan and Deng Liujin and other leaders to receive medical treatment in Shanghai, and purchased radio equipment, medical equipment, etc. for base areas. At the end of 1942, the office was canceled after completing its mission. The Former Site of New Fourth Army’s Office in Shanghai was announced by Xuhui District People's Government as Cultural Relic Preservation Unit of Xuhui District on June 12, 1991.
