Longmen Building and Xianmian Building of Shanghai High School
Located at No.400 Shangzhong Road, Longmen Building is a three-floor brick-and-concrete structure with Rectangular plane. The facade has a protruding entrance, with three parallel, two-floor-high, rectangular doorways supported by four grey granite columns. There are key stones in the grey doorways, and volute columns on both sides. Xianmian Building is three-floor high. The facade has a horizontal three-section layout. The square doorway slightly protrudes forward. There is multiple-level inverted triangle decoration on the porch, above which is a pediment. The predecessor of Shanghai High School was Longmen Academy founded in 1865. Its name was changed for several times. After the founding of the People’s Republic of China in 1949, it was renamed as Shanghai High School. The name “Longmen Building” was in memory of “Longmen Academy” and “Longmen Normal School”, while the name “Xianmian Building” derives from “Xianmian Hall”, one of the old school buildings. Longmen Building and Xianmian Building of Shanghai High School were announced by Xuhui District People's Government as Cultural Relic Preservation Unit of Xuhui District on January 5, 2004.
