Former Residence of Kung Hsiang-hsi

Located at No.7 Dongping Road, the European-style garden residence was designed by China Realty Co., Federal, Inc. U.S.A. and built in 1935. It has a fake-three-floor brick-and-wood structure with slightly square plane. The facade is a portico composed of three large arches, with decoration lines concaved layer by layer on the arch bottom. The middle arch is the entrance. There are wall-attached steps leading to the hallway from both sides. Kung Hsiang-hsi (1880 ~ 1967), born in Taigu, Shanxi Province, served as Industry Minister, Finance Minister and President of the Executive Yuan of the National Government, President of Central Bank, President of Bank of China, etc. successively. He settled down in the United States in 1948. The building is now used by the High School Affiliated to Shanghai Conservatory of Music. The Former Residence of Kung Hsiang-hsi was announced by Shanghai Municipal People's Government as Shanghai Municipality Outstanding Heritage Architecture on February 15, 1994, and announced by Xuhui District People's Government as Cultural Relic Preservation Unit of Xuhui District on August 2, 2007.
