Longhua Pagoda

Located in No.2853 Longhua Road, it is brick-and-wood structure. It is pavilion style of the Song Dynasty, with seven floors and eight corners. It is 40.64 m high, having small rooms inside. Each floor has Kun-men on four sides and rectangular niches on the other four sides. Each floor is laid with wooden floors, with a wooden ladder circling to the seventh floor. Under each floor there is brick arch, and the entasis at the end of the arch is trivalve. Arch at the protruding eave corner is exchange archway. All of them are of the Song Dynasty style. According to legend, Longhua Pagoda was built during the reign of Wu in the Three Kingdoms period (238~250). The existing structure was built in 977. It was initially in Longhua Temple. In 1891, Longhua Road was built, after which the pagoda and the temple are located to the north and south of the road. An additional pagoda and the yard were built as well. Longhua Pagoda was announced by the State Council as one of the sixth batch of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units on May 25, 2006.
