C. Y. Tung Maritime Museum at Shanghai Jiaotong University

C. Y. Tung Maritime Museum was co-founded by the Tung Foundation and Shanghai Jiaotong University. It was opened in January 2003, and was co-inaugurated by Tung Chee-hwa, the then Chief Executive of the HKSAR, Han Zheng, the then Shanghai Vice Mayor, Zhang Xinsheng, the then Vice Minister of Education and Chen Xiaojin, the then General Manager of CSSC. The museum has Chinese Maritime History Hall and C. Y. Tung Showroom. Through a large number of pictures, documents, physical models and maritime trade objects, the ancient Chinese Maritime History Hall on the first floor sketches out China’s maritime history since the Neolithic era and displays Chinese nation’s great invention in the maritime field and glorious history of being close to the ocean and developing foreign economic and cultural exchanges. C. Y. Tung Showroom on the second floor is composed of two parts: “Ocean Giant” and “Land Hero”. With vivid photos, information, physical objects and realistic scenes, it sketches out the legendary life of C. Y. Tung, one of “the World’s Seven Shipping Tycoons”, and shows his achievements in maritime ideals and education. The museum is Shanghai Science Popularization and Education Base.
